Building a Place for History
Karl Niederer has served the State of New Jersey in various leadership capacities for over 38 years. From 1978 to 2012 he was director, state archivist, and chief records administrator in the former state Division of Archives and Records Management (DARM). In these roles, he contributed to the protection and preservation of essential records of New Jersey government, and the institutions and agencies that maintained them. During 2010-11, he participated in a nationwide disaster preparedness and recovery webinar training program—IPER (Intergovernmental Preparedness for Essential Records), sponsored by FEMA and the Council of State Archivists. Employed since 2013 by the NJ Historic Preservation Office, Mr. Niederer currently serves as Administrator of NJCAR and chairs its GIS-CAMP pilot project committee.
