Welcome to the New Jersey History and Historic Preservation Conference

Laura Jennings Pitt

Laura Jennings Pitt joined the Pompton Lakes Historic Commission in 2017 in the prestigious position of “Second Alternate”. The creation of the Pompton Lakes Historic Guide was one of her first undertakings, but certainly not her last. Today, Laura serves as the Chairwoman of the Commission and oversees all the Commission’s volunteer initiatives in town including walking tours, participation in the annual Pompton Day Celebration, and is actively working with her members to secure space for a local museum. The goal of the Commission is to preserve and share local history by making it accessible and engaging. Laura believes historic preservation adds value to our community and provides benefits that will impact future generations.  In addition to serving as the Chairwoman, Laura is a professional fundraiser, entrepreneur, avid runner, and local children’s author. She self-published her first literary work, The No Truck Tow Truck, in 2021 and has built a stable local following for her writing. She aspires to write a children’s book about the history of Pompton Lakes.
