(T-2) Morristown Walking Tour
About this Session
Famously the site of two encampments by Washington’s troops, Morristown boasts a remarkable history that expands far beyond the Revolution. Over the centuries that followed, the town continued be shaped by notable people and events that left their mark on the local landscape. Join us for a guided experience as we explore over 250 years walking across one of New Jersey’s most storied towns.
Led by Amy Curry, Executive Director of Morris County Historical Society, the tour will begin at Acorn Hall, the organization’s headquarters and one of the best-preserved historic house museums in NJ, where a shuttle will be provided to continue the tour. Participants will be hosted at each stop by experts who will share the history preserved within each site. Stops along the tour include Macculloch Hall Historical Museum, home to the largest collection of original works by political cartoons of Thomas Nast; the Sansay House where Lafayette was feted upon his triumphant return to the US, the Morristown Green, First Presbyterian Church, founded 1733; and “The Hollow,” which was long the center of the local African American Community. Participants should expect a fair amount of walking and standing in both sun and shade on their path through bustling downtown Morristown. Restroom facilities will be available at most stops along the approximately one-mile route. At the conclusion of the tour, a shuttle will return participants to Acorn Hall.
