Welcome to the New Jersey History and Historic Preservation Conference

Justin Scalera

Justin Scalera is a photographer for the National Park Service’s Heritage Documentation Programs (HABS/HAER/HALS). He has been with the programs since 2018, first working as a summer intern, and then being brought on full time in 2020. Justin was born and raised in Watchung, New Jersey and has always had an affinity for the historic resources that surrounded him from a young age. In 2019, he graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a Bachelor’s degree in imaging arts and sciences. Justin took his passion for photography, combined it with his love of history, and followed a path all the way to a career with the Park Service. He has produced hundreds of photographic surveys of historic resources of all types across the continental United States and Hawaii. Most recently, Justin has been working alongside senior HDP photographer, Jarob Ortiz, to develop technical standards for the future incorporation of high resolution, born digital photography into the collection.
